10 Outdoor Spring Cleaning Projects
Spring cleaning isn’t always exciting for most of us. But it is important. As the holidays and winter end and we start looking forward to spring and warm weather, something inside of us pushes us to get our homes in order by cleaning, organizing and throwing away things we’ve piled up over the winter months.
But who says spring cleaning is only for the inside of a house?
The outside of your home could likely use a little tidying up after a cold, dreary winter, too!
It’s Time For Home Exterior Cleaning
Here are home exterior cleaning projects that will improve the curb appeal of your home in Killeen, and, more importantly, will provide much-needed maintenance and upkeep that will save money in years to come.
1. Gutter Cleaning
Spring is the best time to clean out your gutters, because a lot of leaves and debris accumulated during the fall and winter months. The pollen count is at its highest during spring, making a mess in your gutters and downspouts if they are not properly cleaned.
Plus, pests and animals are looking for places to build homes during spring, so getting your gutters cleaned out will help to stop an infestation in your home.
Gutter cleaning consists of cleaning the inside of your gutters, removing mold, mildew, rust stains and restoring them to a like-new appearance.
2. Window Cleaning
Exterior window cleaning is necessary for spring cleaning. First floor windows won’t cause you much of an issue, but second and third floor windows can be trickier to reach.
Cleaning windows by hand is an exhausting job, and will require a lot of supplies, not to mention climbing up and down a ladder! A soft wash or professional cleaning of your home’s windows is the recommended solution to get the panes and the outer frame clean.
3. Pressure Washing
You aren’t going to want clean gutters and clean windows on a dirty house. This means you are going to want to pressure wash your home too!
Pressure washing is fast, effective and affordable. You can pressure clean your house, outdoor furniture, concrete patios, wood and stone porches and walkways with not much effort. It will eliminate dirt and mud so they will not stain your home, and you can also stop the spread of mold, mildew and allergens.
4. Driveway Cleaning
Clearing off your home’s driveway and giving it a deep cleaning might seem counter-productive because you will just be driving on it, but, a clean, well-cared for driveway can increase the curb appeal of your home.
A professional pressure washer will do wonders when it comes to driveway cleaning, whether it’s pavement, asphalt, stone or another material. Also think about adding a gravel or mulch border to your home’s driveway to really help it stand out!
5. Patio Cleaning
Your home’s patio gets the most use in the summer months, so it can be easy to overlook it during the winter since you are not doing any outdoor entertaining, leisure or grilling. Your patio could be in pretty bad condition the first time you walk onto it in spring.
Detergent and water – and a little muscle – are sometimes be enough for patio cleaning, but if there are signs of mold or algae, you might need to think about a more serious option, like power washing, to guarantee that friends and family can enjoy your patio all summer.
6. Roof Cleaning
Mold and moss are typical home roof problems in Killeen. While you’re cleaning the outside of your home, it’s an excellent time to pressure clean your home’s roof too, but you will need to use a different method than what you use for most of your home’s exterior cleaning.
If you see streaks on your home’s roof, algae is most likely the reason. Moss is pretty obvious, too. These particles cannot be wiped off of shingles, nor can you pressure wash the roof of your home. Both of these methods will destroy the shingles on your home’s roof.
The ideal course of action for roof cleaning is to mist the shingles with a half-water, half-bleach mixture and let it sit. This solution will eliminate all organic organisms on your home’s roof without lowering its lifespan.
7. Tidy up the Front
The front of your home is likely what most people see, so make the best impression possible for visitors and for yourself! Coming home to a clean exterior will immediately improve your day, and will even encourage you to spend more time outside.
Clean your porch with detergent and water or a good pressure wash. Clean cobwebs and mud off of the front door, and think about painting it for a fresh look! Clean overlooked areas like the porch ceiling, light fixtures and ceiling fans, too.
8. Organize Outdoor Tools
You will soon be spending more time outside, so spring is a wonderful time to organize whatever you will need for outdoor work.
Gardening tools and pool care equipment must all have an exact place outside your home – somewhere that it is safe from weather and out of sight so it isn’t a constant eyesore. Spending the time to organize in the spring allows you to appreciate the outside of your home so much more throughout the time of year that you are going to spend the most time outside.
9. Lawn Care & Landscaping
Your lawn, trees and bushes can make a major impact on the look of your home.
Kill weeds around your flower beds and walkways and driveway, till up places where you will be planting later on and sweep off walkways. You can also spray pre-emergent weed poison to make lawn care easier on yourself throughout the summer. Trim all bushes too.
10. Clean the Grill
After sitting unused for several months, your grill could use a good cleaning, too. Leftover grease and food from your grill are definitely unappetizing, but even worse they can also make you and your family sick.
Wet it down to get rid of ash, then scrub the grates with a scrubber or grill brush (so you do not leave behind particles that can get into food) and a basic detergent or degreaser.
You could probably complete all of these projects after a few weekends but it will be a lot of hard work. Instead, give us a call! Killeen Pressure Washing provides professional residential exterior cleaning services for driveway cleaning, patio cleaning, pressure washing, roof cleaning and more!
